Rite of Christian Initiation for Children
This program is designed for the initiation of children who have attained the use of reason & are of catechetical age, which the Church generally considers to be seven years old. When referring to those children who are in the process of initiation, the term catechumen is often used. A catechumen is a person who is not yet baptized. All the children who are in the RCIC and are between the ages of 7-12 have not yet been baptized. At the completion of the Rite, which begins in September and ends at the Easter Vigil Mass, the child will be baptized and also receive the Sacraments of Confirmation & Eucharist. They in the following years are expected to continue to attend religion classes in order to learn more deeply their faith. It is a beautiful process filled and bless by God's graces & love. Those of us who have the honor of sharing most intimately in the journey of the children and their families are privileged to witness this grace in action.
