The Office of ACTS presents Talks and Teachings every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month at 8:00PM in the school library. These talks and teachings are geared to taking a closer look at the ways of the Lord, providing anything from basic teachings on prayer, to understanding sin and the root of our actions.
We also have the Lenten Program, which includes music, talks, and sharing. This program starts during Lenten season, on Thursdays, at 7:30p in the school cafeteria.
Lenten and Advent Missions are given by some of the most gifted priests, renown for their teachings, preaching, and healing gifts.
Bible study is done twice a year, in spring and fall, at the Spiritual Center. Please see advertising for dates and Scriptural topics.
Please also visit our library, full of wonderful and inspiring books and movies, located in the A.C.T.S. office, in the basement of the Rectory.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question.
From the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults
“The word catholic means ‘universal.’ The Catholic Church has lived and continues to live in a diversity of cultures and languages because she is led by the Spirit of Christ to bring the Gospel to all people. The word Church is translation of biblical words: the Hebrew word gahal, and the Greek word ekklesia, both of which means ‘gathering of people or community’ for worship. The Church is a holy mystery because of her origin in the Holy Trinity and her mission to be the Sacrament of Salvation (the sign and instrument of God’s plan to unite all under Christ).
The Holy Trinity brought the Church into being. The Father called the Church into existence. The Son established the Church. The Holy Spirit filled the Church with power and wisdom at Pentecost. The Holy Trinity abides with the Church always, creatively and providentially. The Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, brings Christ’s salvation to the world. She is the instrument of God’s universal call to holiness. At the same time the church is made up of sinful people. Yet despite the personal sinfulness of her members, the Church remains holy by the presence of Jesus and the Holy Spirit who permeates her.”
The Lord calls us to Himself, are we listening?
We are all created for God and by God, and “our hearts will be restless until they rest in you oh God,” St Augustine.
As a Christian, daily we face much assault by the world, and its ways.. We need a continual source of “spiritual food,” to help us persevere on our journey back home. We need to seek to be fed and purified of all that is not of God, daily. The Mother Church is a true source of that food for our spiritual journey. The Lord left us the Sacraments, gave us community, taught us how to pray, and left his Eucharistic Presence, the treasure of the Church.
God called us to be in solitude with Him, so that we may be silent an listen to Him, and He created us to be in community, so that we may share our experiences, and support one another. God Himself is a community, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, yet one God. The Trinity is a tremendous unity, and that is what we are called to be, united in one heart and one mind with God and each other “so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us.” Jn 17: 21 How is this unity accomplished? Only through the power of the Holy Spirit, only if we seek him and surrender to the will of God.
“One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” Mt 4: 4
What is the word that comes forth from the mouth of God? It is the written word, the Scriptures. We are to read the word, ponder the word, contemplate the word, and live the word. This is the heart of the Church. Jesus is the Word. We highly encourage daily prayer with Scripture, in meditations and contemplation on the Word of God.
And let us never forget the great Mother of God, Mary, a powerful intercessor on our behalf, and the mediatrix of all graces.
Mary, Most Holy Mother, pray for us.
